Like you, we value privacy, and we want to be completely transparent about what we do with your information. This page describes the information we receive, how we use it, and how you can manage your privacy while using Bublup.
This policy applies to all our products and services, including our websites, applications, extensions, and mobile apps, which we will collectively refer to simply as “Bublup.”
We developed this policy based on seven key privacy tenets:
When you sign up for a Bublup account, you voluntarily give us some information about yourself as part of your profile. Your profile includes your name, email address, username, and optional profile picture. You might also choose to provide limited account information (which does not include your password) from companies like Facebook or Google to sign into Bublup. We associate your profile information with your account, and we use it to associate your stuff with you. We may also use your email address to notify you of upcoming changes or improvements to Bublup.
Bublup provides a way for you to save all your stuff in one place, including links to your favorite web pages, notes, photos, music, and files. We store this information so that we can provide it back to you when you need it, no matter where you are. You can also share your saved stuff with other people, in which case we will transmit it to them upon your request. We never share your privately saved information with other users unless you ask us to (e.g., you want to email a document to a friend).
Bublup also uses links to public web pages, which our users save, to drive our suggestions. Bublup offers suggestions to Bublup users to help them discover interesting and relevant content. Our suggestions are always anonymous, meaning we never identify the users who saved a particular link. We recommend that you exercise caution when saving links to web pages that comprise personal or sensitive information if those web pages are not secured by a password. Bublup will never suggest any web pages that can only be accessed with a password. Bublup only suggests public web pages.
If you sign up for Premium membership or make other purchases on Bublup, we save payment information and information about what you bought. We may use and share this information with our trusted third-party payment providers strictly for processing your transaction in a secure manner. We do not use your financial information for any other purpose.
Bublup wants to provide the best user experience. We think that means offering content that is customized to your interests and preferences, making Bublup easy and convenient to use, and quickly resolving any issues that you may encounter. To achieve these goals, we use and sometimes retain information related to your use of Bublup. Whenever possible, we disassociate this information from your account so that it cannot be linked back to you. Please see the list below for an explanation of what we do with usage and technical information.
One of the core goals of Bublup is to help you easily discover new and useful information about topics that interest you. In order to do that, we process the web links that you view with Bublup in a way that is not linked back to you. For example, if you open a link about music in Bublup (either by viewing the item or launching its web page), Bublup may suggest other music-related links. We do not retain any of your browsing history on our servers, but your web browser may retain this information so that you can easily return to previously visited pages. In our mobile app, you can manually delete your browsing history at any time. From your computer, your web browser will have its own settings for managing browsing history – please consult your browser’s documentation for more information.
Bublup enables you to easily share content with other people, including via email. For your convenience, we save the email addresses of people you contact so that you can more easily email them in the future. We do not use or share this information for any other purpose.
We do not presently receive, use, or retain GPS location information. In the future, we may offer location-based services. At that time, we will revise this policy accordingly.
We save your IP address when you first create an account with Bublup. We infer broad geolocation information from this IP address to help us understand where people are first joining Bublup. While using Bublup, we also save your IP address in our logs for troubleshooting purposes, but not in a way that can be linked back to you.
We also use technologies like cookies to better understand how people collectively use Bublup. Specifically, we use Google Analytics and Mixpanel to help us calculate anonymous and aggregated usage statistics (e.g., 1,000 people saved the same link over a one-hour period). Google Analytics and Mixpanel cookies are non-essential, and you may choose to opt-out of their use.
To better understand how Google Analytics works, please see Google’s privacy terms for partner sites here: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites (note: Bublup does not currently use any of Google’s advertising features). You may also opt out of Google Analytics by installing this browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
To learn more about Mixpanel, please see its privacy site here: https://mixpanel.com/legal/"privacy-overview/. You may opt out of Mixpanel by enabling the DNT (“do not track”) setting within your respective browser as described here: https://allaboutdnt.com/.
Facebook Pixel is a non-essential, third-party cookie that may be used to transmit information to Facebook specifically to help us determine if you learned about Bublup through a Facebook ad campaign. Facebook uses this information to provide measurement services to us and specific ads to you while on Facebook. You may prevent Facebook Pixel (and similar cookies used on other websites) from transmitting information about you by opting out via one of the tools below. Please note that you must separately opt out in each web browser that you use with Bublup, including Bublup’s own in-app browser on mobile devices.
We save characteristics about your browser (e.g., Chrome or Safari), computer (e.g., Windows or MacOS), and/or mobile device (e.g., Android or iOS) to help us troubleshoot problems and improve Bublup. We retain this information in an anonymous format.
When you contact us, we may save your contact information to troubleshoot issues with Bublup or your account.
In very limited circumstances, we may share your information (including profile information, information you have saved, and other information that you may consider private) with trusted third-parties for reasons other than those discussed above. The sections below describe these limited circumstances.
We may share your information with trusted third-parties (like law enforcement and government agencies) to: (a) conform to or comply with the law; (b) enforce our Terms of Service, including the investigation of potential violations; (c) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect and defend the rights, property, or safety of Bublup, our users, or the public as required or permitted by law. In all such cases, we will only share as much information as is reasonably necessary to comply with the law, regulation, or legal request.
We may share aggregated, non-personally identifiable information (e.g., “50% of our users use a mobile device”) publicly and with our business partners.
You always have the right to access and control your information. Particularly, you can view and change information about you in your profile page at any time. You can also delete your account entirely by accessing the ACCOUNT INFORMATION page within Bublup. When you delete your account, we will deactivate it and remove your private information from Bublup. Particularly, we will delete your saved content and anonymize your reactions (e.g., likes and dislikes) in group folders that you do not own. Other users will see your reactions as belonging to an anonymous user. We cannot, however, alter notifications (i.e., prior messages to other users in a group folder). If you are the owner of a group folder, we will delete all content and reactions associated with that folder. Once we delete your information from our primary servers, we may still retain some archived copies in our backups for a commercially reasonable period of time.
If you want to take your data with you to another service or back it up somewhere else, you may download your data from Bublup to your computer at any time.
You may opt out of receiving certain cookies like Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel as described above. You may also change your browser’s settings to delete existing cookies and/or reject new cookies. For example, if you prefer not to receive cookies, you can set your browser to warn you before accepting each one. You also have the option to refuse all cookies entirely by turning them off in your browser. However, rejecting essential cookies may affect your ability to use the software as intended with all its functionality. Your browser or device may also have other capabilities for managing your privacy. Please visit your browser's help pages, including these:
When using the in-app browser in Bublup’s mobile app, you may not reject cookies or delete individual cookies. You may, however, delete all cookies at any time by selecting the “Clear Cookies” menu option inside the browser and, in addition, use the third-party opt-out tools as described in the Usage and Technical Information section above.
The Android and iOS mobile platforms identify certain types of data (e.g., contacts, camera, etc.) that mobile apps cannot access without your permission. These platforms will alert you the first time the Bublup mobile app wants permission to access certain types of data, and you may choose to consent to that request. If you choose to withhold consent, some of the mobile app’s functionality may be unavailable to you.
Bublup is not for children under 13. If you learn that your minor child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
